Speaking of the Message Version...

So each night (theoretically) in December at dinnertime, Mark and I are teaching the boys a new name of Jesus from the Bible. It isn't a long, drawn out sermon - just sharing a name of Jesus and what that name tells us about who He is.

Tonight's name of Jesus was "Prince of Peace". We talked about times we were afraid and how we felt inside when we are afraid. Then we talked about what it means to have "peace", which is an interesting concept to communicate in a house with two whirling dervish-like boys ages 4 and 6. To help us understand what having peace means, we poured some soda into a bottled, shook it up, and watched it fizz to demonstrate what it feels like to not have peace inside us. As we watched the fizz settle, we talked about how the calm soda is what a peaceful heart feels like because of knowing Jesus.

Brilliant teachable moment, if I do say so myself.

And then Calvin sneezed. And out came some nasty green snot. (Hurl.)

As I was wiping his nose, Calvin asked, "Is one of Jesus' names 'Wiper of Noses?'"

Gonna have to check the Message version for that one.

Okay, that's pretty funny (the snot part/question)!! What a creative and beautiful lesson. It's rare I have those mother moments...
