The Simple Woman's Daybook

I saw this on another blog I was visiting, and it looked like a neat way to do a quick blog update without feeling too much pressure to get highly creative.

Outside my window... it is raining snow, which is a rare, but distinct weather phenomenon. I am at Panera, and as I look out the window I also see the huge crack running across the windshield of the Nav. It taunts me.

I'm thinking... how life would look if Inessa was here today. Would she be in school? Would I be homeschooling her? It's a "missing Inessa" day. Most days are.

I'm thankful... for my family. I really am. Jude and Calvin are such joys and delights to me, although they can get slightly out of hand sometimes. Mark and I had a nice long talk last night, and it makes me thankful again for having someone who understands me. Don't get me started on the Moo Man. World's greatest dog, hands down. And I am thankful I get to care for all of them.

From the learning rooms... Jude is working on borrowing for two and three digit subtraction problems! It blows my mind how early the kids are learning this stuff anymore. Cal Henry is tearing it up in karate, and I think he is slowly realizing that it is OK not to be good at something the first time and that hard work and practice can be very rewarding. I'm learning all about the Kingdom of Heaven from my Matthew Bible study. It's so rich and I love seeing God and His plan in a new way!

I am wearing... jeans, a white turtleneck, and my "Real women love football..the rest of ya'll jut stay in the kitchen" T-Shirt. I was feeling a little sassy this morning.

I am going... to hang out here for a bit and then I'm going to surprise Jude at his school for lunch. I confess here and now, having lunch with Jude and his 8 year old school buddies is not exactly my idea of good fun, but it's important to Jude so I shall go and laugh at all of the silly (I don't get them!) jokes.

I am reading... the book of Matthew and "Faith Trainers" by Dr. Joe White. I highly recommend both.

I am hoping... to get a message from Inessa today. A word or two from Latvia goes a long way. I'm hoping to get some decent sleep tonight too. Between stress, medicines, and who knows what else, I haven't slept well in weeks.

I am hearing... classical music over the Panera speakers and the murmur of conversations all around me. The murmur is somewhat soothing, the music - not so much. It sounds slightly frantic and angst filled and just a tad too loud for classical music.

Around the house... well, it's Miss Terri day (she cleans my house once every two weeks. Quit judging. It's one of the best investments Mark and I make each month!) so the house will be totally clean when I get home, which is a joy I can't exactly put into words. It's like letting out a giant sigh and feeling all your muscles relax the minute you walk in the door. There are loads of laundry that need done though, and if I don't wash the sheets soon the boys may begin complaining that they have to sleep on stinky, crusty cardboard.

One of my favorite things... my marriage. Mark and I have both been so preoccupied lately with the situation with Inessa, the boys' needs, a paintball tournament, his work, side effects of medicines, and we both have needed time each night to decompress separately. Last night we hung out and talked about everything going on and how we're feeling and a bunch of everyday, non significant things. Even though we haven't spent a lot of time together lately or been on a date in who knows how long, I still rest securely when it comes to my relationship with Mark. I enjoy his company, his humor, and his insights. He is my favorite person in the world, and I feel really lucky that I can say that.

A few plans for the rest of the week... tonight Jude's basketball team has a game, and that is always slightly stressful and slightly entertaining all rolled into one. Tomorrow I am taking Jude out of school and we are driving to Louisville to go cheer for my niece Hope at a swim meet! I was planning to go alone, but Jude has been asking for a "date night" with me for awhile, and I decided it would be a great way to spend some time with him. Cal is going to stay home and have a "daddy day" and go to his karate class. I'm hoping to hang out with my good friend Aly Thursday, and in a perfect world Mark, the kids, and I will all just hang out this weekend together and maybe I'll get some scrapbooking done.

So that is it for today - my Simple Woman's Daybook update!

I love this and it makes me wish that we lived closer to each other. Then we'd be at Panera together!
